Carlsbad veterans meeting to cover cemetery grant opportunity
SANTA FE — Veterans, their families, and community members are invited to share concerns, ask questions and receive updates on services and benefits during a local community veterans call meeting.The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services (NMDVS) will brief attendees on an $8 million federal grant opportunity through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Cemetery Grants Program for the proposed New Mexico State Veterans Cemetery in Carlsbad. As part of a statewide outreach effort, the meeting will also cover veterans’ health care, mental health resources, tax exemptions, rural transportation, park passes and legislative updates affecting veterans.

NMDVS benefits personnel will assist eligible veterans and unmarried surviving spouses applying for property tax waivers, exceptions, and lifetime veteran park passes. Accredited veteran service officers will be on-site to assist with VA benefits claims, health care eligibility, disability compensation, and other state benefits.
